How to Replace the Fuel Filter in a Mitsubishi 3000GT
The fuel filter in your Mitsubishi 3000GT keeps dirt and rust particles out of the fuel system. You should replace the fuel filter every 30,000 to 40,000 miles. More often if you are running larger injectors and more than stock boost.
Some find it helpful to relieve the fuel tank pressure by loosening the fuel cap.
The fuel filter is in the engine bay attached to the firewall on the passengers side of the car.
If you still have the stock air box then take it out and or your open air filter and MAS. Then continue to take off your y-pipe or other intake piping.
Then pull your battery out.
Pull the battery tray and its support bracket. Also remove the washer fluid tank and disconnect the plug harness.
Remove the fuel lines from the fuel filter first and THEN detach the bolts that mount it in place. Otherwise it will move on you. I have converted mine to 6an lines you can see the fuel upgrade plans here on my site. I also mounted my aftermarket fuel pressure sender here after the fuel filter.
Take out the old fuel filter and put the new filter in the bracket, use new gaskets for installation. As you reattach the hoses, bolts and pipes, tighten the eye bolts to 22 ft=lbs. and the flare nut to 25 ft-lbs. I have converted mine to 6an lines you can see the fuel upgrade plans here on my site.
Make sure the mounting bolts are tightened completely, and then put it all back together. Reconnect the battery cable and put the fuel cap back on. Turn the key to the “On” position to re-pressurize the system. Start the engine of your Mitsubishi 3000GT and check for leaks.
